Life

ITS RAINING IN CHENNAI!!!!!! Anyone who knows me even remotely knows that I just LOVE the rain. There's just something in the sound that the raindrops make when they fall, the wet smell and of course the feeling of the cold drops of (supposedly) pure water falling on to my face that excites me like nothing else ever can. In the course of the past week, it has rained every day, and I have faithfully gotten quite wet every single one of these days. Saturday night Chinmayi and I went up to the terrace and got completely drenched. Anyone who had seen us would have thought we were raving lunatics. We were jumping, dancing, singing...wow!...I had an amazing time.

Sunday was the laziest day ever. In the morning we (chinmayi and I) went for a swim at the club. It had been ages since I had stepped into a pool. I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Went for lunch to Beach Palms. The food wasn't too great, and I'm not too big a fan of Chinese food anyway.

Its raining again now. I so badly want to go up to the terrace, but I shouldn't. There's a massive physics test tomorrow on the magnetic effect of current or some such nonsense. It seems so pointless, the way my life has been. I shuttle from tuition to school to tuition but I honestly don't think I'm learning anything at all. I think I'll go now and try to study. Feeling guilty. I'll blog later.

I know physics wasnt my cup of tea either, do you like biology? It is my favorite subject. Infact I am a cell biologist. I understand your predicament. When I was in high school I did the same hop from one tution class to the other to come back home tired at the end of the day. My suggestion would be ask your parents to stop sending you to tution classes. You will do much better when you sit and try to understand the subject on your own. The internet is a wonderful thing if used the right way. Make use of it, give it your honest effort. If physics does not interest you and if you feel that you will do better in literature do not hesitate to do your higher studies in literature. I visited your site from chinmayi's site and I simply wanted to give you a few words of advice because I have been through what you are going through. Work hard little girl, for you have a lot more to go through in life now. Do not stress yourself out though! enjoy life... adios

Hey robbie...
im not that interested in bio, but actually, i really like physics as a subject...its just that its taught really badly in school, and so it gets really annoying to have to study it.
I didn't want the tuition classes in the beginning of the year, but my mom thought it was good so...im still trying to get her to let me quit at least the chemistry tuition.
thanks for your advice!

I know how it feels when the damned teacher does not teach the subject well in school. It is normally a ploy to make students join their after school tution classes where they make obscene amounts of money. Are you planning to do your engineering or medicine? I mean professional courses or are you planning to get a bachelors degree? You need to make your decisions based on this. Our higher secondary education is such a farce, it is just making you memorise unwanted stuff, frankly being in science for the past 10 years I can safely say that what they teach you in highschool is not going to help you when you start your research career. So if you are not getting into any of the professional courses and want to do a bachelors degree and get into a graduate program in the US, just relax and enjoy high school, dont sweat! I know your parents must be fuming at this advice but I feel that high school education in india is only for the stupid mug pots. wont help people like you and me!
best of luck pea and dont go nuts!

Robbie -
No I don't wanna do any of the proffesional courses...ill probably do a B Sc...but aren't your Board Exam marks really important for even these courses? At least for the proffesional courses you have enterance exams...
Also, the material that is taught...as in the topics that are covered in our 11th and 12th std syllabus are actually quite interesting. Its just the way they are taught and the fact that they are being taught for the board exam that puts us off it so much. Im sure that if they taught some of the topics well, we would WANT to study them.

yeah pea, you do have to get a good score but u dont have to score 99.5% so relax. If you cant study in chennai go up north, they dont require very high scores for their bachelors degrees. Try good universities in the north.

and regarding the 12th standard syllabus it is hyped too much, when it comes to real practical value, there is really very little there. It is full of unecessary theory. Even though it might be interesting it is not necessary to teach such stuff when you are in your 12th standard. You havent even reached the stage where you can comprehend most of it and I wonder if the teachers themselves know what they are teaching. I am glad you are taking the bachelors degree route, and have you decided what you are going to do your bachelors degree in?

bachelors in physics probably...or maybe even math...im not too sure yet...
the teachers dont know what they're teaching. Im pretty sure of that. It is all very complicated but even then im sure we'd understand it if it was taught properly.

I dont understand your crapping other people's discussion, I would have appreciated it if you could shed light on what needs to be discussed in a blogsite. I guess the prime word in your vocabulary would be "SHIT" isnt it? I guess you need to go do that first...

Peanuts:
A bachelors degree in physics is a great idea, I would suggest looking up on colleges through the web right away. There must be good universities for Physics in Chennai. You really have to plan ahead on what colleges you want to apply to their application criteria and stuff like that. I do not have much of an idea about good colleges for physics in India but I sure know that India has good scope for research in physics. I wish you best of luck in your career, and by the way I wasnt trying to counsel you, was just trying to share a little bit of the experience I've had.
best of luck,
adios
